Origins of the game
Like most ancient
games, the origins of Chinese Chess (Xiang Qi, pronounced shiang chi,
meaning 'the battle of elephants') is open to debate. It is a traditional
board game that has been in existence possibly since the 5th century BC.
Basic rules and objectives
Similarly to
Western Chess, the game is played by two players, each having sixteen pieces.
The aim of the game is to capture your opponent's most important piece,
the General, or King. Unlike Western Chess, however, Chinese Chess has 7
types of playing piece (General, Adviser, Elephant, Horse, Chariot, Cannon,
and Pawn). Furthermore, Chinese Chess is played on a larger board.
